Top 5 drugstore glitter nail polish

If you're anything like me, anything sparkly is an instant winner. I'm such a sucker for glitter! I especially love glitter nail polish, especially now I have nailed (haha) the application of them! (See Tori's Top Tip for applying glitter nail polish). Therefore, it seemed only right that I introduce you to my top 5 drugstore nail polishes.

Tori's Top Tips - Applying glitter nail polish

Picture the scene. You're in Boots, browsing the aisles when out of the corner of your eye, a twinkle sparkles from the shelves. It's a glitter nail polish...and you NEED it.

You get it home, open it up and paint a coat to realise that you've been fooled again. One coat of this polish leaves you three specks of glitter and a whole load of gloop. It's resigned to the back of the makeup drawer where dodgy products go to die.

Until now. Get out that glitter polish! I can teach you how to apply it so it sparkles like the goddess that you are!

Easy Red Nail Art Ideas

Now, I am NO nail artist but I do love nail art so I decided to use some nail wheels to test out some easy nail art designs.

These were all made using a simple red nail varnish - OPI Big Apple Red which costs £9.95 from Beauty Bay but which I got in a Love Me Beauty box. I then tweaked each nail to make different designs which could be used as an accent nail or all over!

Pink/Gold glitter ombre nail

My favourite nail colour combo is still the Barry M Nail Gelly in Pink Lemonade combined with Barry M Nail Paint in Gold. I used it in my Spring Nail Art look  and I've used it again here now! Except this time...I've added glitter. Everything's better with glitter, right??

Shattered Glass Nails

Soooo...today's post is about one of the easiest nail art looks I've ever done. And so pretty, oh so pretty!!

I first saw magical nails like this on Pinterest and fell immediately in love. I mean, who wouldn't! They're just gorgeous. So I started to research the items I needed to recreate the look and found that it seemed fairly simple..

You will need:

Angel Foil Wrap - I got mine from eBay (The seller was ex4im_ltd - I don't know them, but received excellent service)
Nail Foil Adhesive Glue - another eBay job, this time from iluvthisworld2010 which arrived really quickly and well packaged.
Scissors
White nail polish
Top Coat

Method:

I simply cut small triangles of the nail foil out before painting all of my nails white. After they were dry, I put on a thin coat of the adhesive glue which dried to a tacky finish. After that, I placed the triangles where I wanted them and trimmed any excess.

This was my first attempt and I assumed it would be a disaster but it wasn't! The results were perfectly passable if difficult to photograph...! Another thing to bear in mind is that these looked WAY better from a slight distance. Up close, the white nail polish was a little patchy and the angel foil could have been neater but from a distance, I was entranced by the holographic gorgeousness!

The nail foil really caught the light, shimmering and reflecting beautifully!

The next time I do these nails, I will cut smaller triangles as well as placing them more carefully. I think I'm also going to try a gel topcoat set with UV light as a clear topcoat crinkled the foil a little.

Still, for the amount of effort it took, I was mesmerised by these!!

What are your easy nail art looks??

Spring Nail Art

With the new Spring season comes a new look for my nails. Gone are the much beloved berry colours I rocked all Autumn and in come the neutrals. I'm not a pastel lover for my nails (or clothes!) but give me a decent nude/neutral polish and I'm all into that! See my neutral ombre nail look as proof!

I decided to give some simple nail art a go to using tape to block off areas...sounded simple enough...!

The tools

I used these two Barry M nail polishes: Pink Lemonade Gelly Hi Shine Nail Paint and Gold Nail Paint to create my look as well as some normal tape and some striping tape I bought from eBay years ago!

Flatlay rocks...

Technique

I painted my nails with the Pink Lemonade polish and left it to dry for 24 hours. This is SO important as the polish has got to be completely dry or the tape will pull the polish off.

This is a gorgeous colour which is about as pastel as I go. It's completely opaque after two coats and lasts really well.
Spring Nail Art

Once the polish was dry, I created this pattern using the tape - the Scotch tape was placed diagonally over the top half of my nail and two pieces of striping tape over the bottom half of my nail before I painted over the whole thing with gold polish.

After that, you need to take the tape off while the polish is still wet. If it dries, when you pull the tape off, the lines won't be as crisp.

Then leave the gold to dry for longer than you'd think - you can see I smudged mine a little when I applied top coat.

Neutral Ombre Nails

I love nail art...but without an artistic bone in my body, I tend to stick to just painting my nails. So when I saw on Pinterest a nail "art" look that consisted of different tones of the same colour - an ombre effect so to speak, I was in!
Neutral Ombre Nails

I collected five different neutral polishes and simply painted one nail on each hand in each shade before topping with a matte topcoat. Please do excuse my cuticles though, they're such a mess at the moment after sorting out my garden for Spring, booooo. If anyone has any genius ideas for making them prettier, please DO let me know!

If I did this look again, I'd switch out the pinky colour for a cooler toned neutral.

Neutral Ombre Nails

The polishes I used for this look vary GREATLY in age. I've had some of these for years (OPI, Nails Inc and 17...but still as good as new!)

They go (clockwise direction):
Nails Inc Diet Coke freebie in London but from what I can see, Porchester Square seems to be their most equivalent colour
17 Fast Finish Nail Polish in Tiger's Eyes which has been discontinued.

What is your favourite neutral nail polish?

Sensationail Gel Nails Review

There's nothing I love more than a freshly painted manicure. And nothing I hate MORE than chipped nail varnish. It's a never ending battle so last Christmas, when my mum bought me the Sensationail Deluxe Gel Starter Kit I thought that my struggle was over. It's taken me a year to fall in love with it, but fall in love I have!

W7 Glitter Nail Polish Review

W7 is a brand I don't hear a lot about but one that I absolutely love! I see it a lot in discount stores such as B&M bargains as well as the Beauty Outlet store in Cheshire Oaks (W7 heaven!) The quality of the products is excellent and the price is virtually unbeatable. One of my favourite products from them is their glitter nail polishes.

Love themed nails with Lottie and OPI nail polishes

I recently got a Lottie nail polish in my Love Me Beauty Box and decided to test it out while creating a little bit of nail art. The nail polish itself is lovely - really easy to apply!!

The nail art look is not very autumny...and it's not very precise but I loved it!

Rimmel Salon Pro in Urban Purple - The Perfect Autumn Nail Colour

I love Autumn. I was a Summer lover for years and years...but the past few years, Autumn has been glorious here in the UK and it's converted me.

In keeping with that, I adore berry and jewel colours - they suit my skin tone and are so rich and sumptuous looking, what's not to love.

I've been searching for a vibrant berry nail polish colour that's not too dark and vampy but isn't neon bright. And I think I've found it.

Essence the gel nail polish - Indigo to go review and swatch

Essence is a brand recently recommended to me on the #FABBloggers chat so I got myself down to Wilkinsons to see what I could pick up and was immediately drawn to a purple nail polish called Indigo to go.
