Best Daily Habits for a Healthy Skin


As you might have noticed, I haven't blogged for a while now. I've had a lot going on in my offline life at the moment which has had a real impact on my online life. Fortunately, Shawky from No More Marionette got in touch with this guest post which I'm sure you'll love reading!




Most people are well aware of various factors that lead to aging skin, the main ones being cigarette smoking and sun damage. The best of us know how to care for the skin on the surface but neglect to do so from the inside as well. For skin to be vibrant and healthy, it should be nurtured from the within. There are certain daily routines that promote a healthy skin if performed on a daily basis.

The following insightful tips will help you get and maintain a healthy skin when followed on a daily basis:

Think beyond the face

It is good to include your chest and neck in your daily routine meant to promote healthy skin. The skin on the chest and neck areas is quite sensitive to signs of aging like wrinkles, sunspots and dryness. It is advisable to utilize facial cleansing creams that cleanse, and hydrate gently rather than then use of deoderants because of their drying effect. Finally, apply an effective facial moisturizing cream.

Limit shower time


Taking long and hot showers is not good for healthy skin. This is because it washes away all of its protective oils and strips it of its moisture. The best shower habit to develop is to restrict shower time to ten minutes and to use cool water. Water temperature dos matter, significantly to be precise. Furthermore, adhere to the following when using cleansers and soaps:

  • Use soap with added fat rather than deodorant soap.
  • Use bath brush or loofah to rub daily in order to control scaly skin and ingrown hair.
  • Scaly or bumpy skin should be scrubbed in a circular motion when in the shower to eliminate dead cells.

Staying hydrated


Staying hydrated is very good for the skin as it prevents it from feeling flaky and dry.

Sweating


Sweat helps in detoxifying the skin. This means working out cleanses the skin because the pores open up to release buildup and toxins from the body. If such buildup and toxins are left to accumulate they can result in blemishes and zits. Exercise stimulates the lymphatic system and improves circulation in the body and skin. Therefore, workout regularly for a healthy skin.

Eat well


In most cases, things that promote overall good health are also ideal for the skin. This means that eating healthy is not only necessary for preventing diseases and losing weight but also provides people with a youthful look.

Heat exposure


Avoid getting close to fireplaces and heaters to protect your skin. Exposure to heat causes collagen breakdown and inflammation. The recommended distance is 10 feet or more.


Sunscreen

It is good to wear sunscreen everyday regardless of whether you are visiting the beach or not. Wear sunscreen even when running simple errands as you are subjected to daily UV exposure and this leads to visible signs of aging. Purchase a sunscreen with a broad spectrum and a SPF value of 30 or more. Make sure that the sunscreen is re-applied every 2 hours.


Moisturize after bathing


Moisturizing after taking a bath should constitute your daily routine for healthy skin. Apply lotion or cream, three minutes after leaving the shower or a tub. This helps to lock in moisture in the skin’s upper layers thus preventing itching and dryness. The moisturizer that is used should have skin-repairing ingredients. The use of moisturizers stops tearing, bruising and dryness. The active ingredients to look out for are propylene glycol, urea, sorbitol or glycerin.

Pimples


It is not a good habit to squeeze pimples as it only worsens the state of the skin. Repeatedly squeezing it causes inflammation, scarring and broken skin. However, you can only squeeze it once it is white and this should not exceed one squeeze as it is a strong indication that it is not ready.

Makeup


Do not sleep with make-up on the face together with pollution and dirt. These function to clog the skin pores hence breakouts and inflammation. A gentle cleanser can be used for this purpose.

Touching the face


It is a good habit to avoid touching your face because it promotes the spread of bacteria and causes breakouts. In addition, it can increase wrinkles and promote scarring as well as flu.

Sleep



Sleep is considered to be cosmetic medicine and the best part is that it is free-of-charge. The quality and quantity of sleep significantly affect the state of the skin. Try as much as possible to get some good sleep if you want your skin to look good. When you are sleep-deprived, it makes your skin appear saggy and increases the number of wrinkles. The recommended total hours of sleep are 8.


Washing the face


It is important to wash your face before retiring to bed every night, it leaves the skin feeling smooth and refreshed.

Straws and chewing gum


Wrinkles and fine lines can be brought about by chewing gum, drinking using a straw and smoking. The excess motion on the lower section of the face can increase the number of lines surrounding the mouth. Furthermore, when using water bottles, use one with a wide mouth to allow you to sip or get one that squirts.

Stress


Stress has an effect on the manner by which the protective outer layers of the skin operate. This means that if you are stressed it can cause irritation and redness as well as wrinkles. Try to relax your face for a better part of the day and handle stressful conditions better for a healthier feeling and looking skin. Good techniques of decreasing stress are deep breathing and exercise.

Conclusion

The skin is the largest organ in the body. This means that it should be properly taken care of. It requires one to adhere to the daily habits of healthy skin care listed above.
