Decorative Letters: How To and the Finished Product

I recently made a New Year's Resolution to craft more. I love creating things and while I'm not an expert in any craft, I'll give almost anything a go. So with this in mind, I spent some time this weekend making some decorative letters for my mantelpiece.

I'm pretty pleased with how they turned out and hope you like them too!

  • 3D Papier Mache letters of choice -  I got these from The Range at £1 each but there are also these papier mache letters* on Amazon if you prefer to have a choice of different sizes.
  • Paint in whatever colour takes your fancy - I used a tester pot of Dulux Sapphire Salute again from The Range for £1. I liked using wall paint as it covered in one coat and could be made to match any colour scheme of a room just using left over paint! There are loads of Dulux tester pots* on Amazon so you can pick up any colour you like!
  • GemTac glue is the best for sticking gems onto anything - I got mine from eBay*
  • A selection of flat back embellishments. I've collected mine over the years from pound shops, craft shops, eBay, Amazon*, Wish...you name it, I've bought embellishments from them for card making.
  • Photo frames if you want to mount them - I got 3 for £1.99 from B&M Bargains
  • Tools including a hot glue gun, paint brushes and some sort of picker for the gems. I used a stick with blu-tac on the end.

Instructions

After you've gathered your supplies, it's just a case of paint the letters and let them dry.
Place your embellishments until you're happy with the look and then stick them down with the Gem-Tac.
I then hot-glued mine onto the frames to make them stand out a little more and because my P wouldn't stand up on its own!

Here's a timelapse video of me making the letters.

I absolutely LOVED making these letters and I've already had some requests to make some for friends and family. I'm delighted that I've started the year as I mean to go on!

In My Home

Here's some photos of the letters in my home.
