Armathwaite Hall Hotel and Spa

I was recently lucky enough to have an overnight stay at Armathwaite Hall - a luxury hotel in the Lake District. This hotel is owned by the Graves family and has stood on the shores of Bassenthwaite since the 11th century! It's got gorgeous rooms with stunning views, a luxurious spa, brasserie restaurant and formal restaurant as well as many many little nooks and crannies to curl up with a cup of tea and a good book!

The Rooms at Armathwaite Hall

We were staying in room 121 which was an executive room with a balcony overlooking the lake.

The bed was so comfortable - sleeping was a dream! A robe and slippers were provided for use as well as magazines in the room. There was a gorgeous dressing table, a living room area and a massive ensuite bathroom!

Bassenthwaite

The hotel itself has a rolling lawn down to Bassenthwaite, one of the largest but shallowest bodies of water in the Lake District. Our room had a view right down this lawn to the lake - simply stunning!

Eating at Armathwaite Hall

We ate in the fairly new brasserie restaurant at Armathwaite - a slightly more casual and relaxed place than the formal restaurant. In the past, I've also enjoyed afternoon teas at Armathwaite which I can confirm are delicious!

This particular weekend, we had a three course meal and drinks in the brasserie restaurant which had super speedy service and really friendly staff.

We also had double chocolate brownie and a cheeseboard for our final courses - but by this point had forgotten to take any photographs! All the food was gorgeous - portion sizes for the main courses were massive, especially the beef fajita, and the atmosphere in the restaurant was really friendly and relaxed.

The Spa at Armathwaite Hall

One of the reasons we chose Armathwaite Hall was to enjoy use of the spa. There is an outdoor hot tub which overlooks a pleasant wooded area with some deer sculptures and some REAL rabbits! Inside, there is two swimming pools surrounded by loungers as well as a conservatory with lots of loungers. In warmer months, there's also an outdoor terrace which would have loungers as well. There's a thermal suite which contains an aroma room, sauna and steam room as well as a couple of spa showers (rain shower and tropical shower) and an indoor hydrotherapy pool with jet massagers and a neck shower. There was also a well equipped gym and a full range of exercise classes. We didn't have any treatments while there but there are 10 treatment rooms with one couples treatment room.

All in all, the overnight stay was amazing and SO worth the money we paid. The hotel was gorgeous and I'd love to go back! You can book to stay at Armathwaite Hall Hotel and Spa direct with them.

You can see my review of the KP lodges at Pocklington here - if I review a hotel or other accomodation on its own, it's because I REALLY loved it!!
