Moor Street Night Market - Ormskirk

I've been trying to find more local events to attend with the hubs and saw that Ormskirk had organised a night market. The description of local ales, artisan gins and, of course, street food won us over so off we went to the first Moor Street Night Market. It may be the first, but I hope it's not the last. I can see that this would be really successful!

The Stalls

Fiesta Catering - fresh, clean texmex food based in Southport
Treaty Pie - the most glorious looking dessert calzones and a good range of vegan options too!
Piadina Pronto - Italian flatbreads with the tastiest sounding toppings
Holborns - beer and wine bar for those who fancy a tipple
Squiddly Diddly - Squid and Sweet Potato fries that I was DYING to try but they had the biggest queue all night! Perhaps at the next Haigh Hall Foodie Friday!
Gastro Grub Hub - sausage rolls and scotch eggs, all absolutely delicious!
and many more including stalls which sold olives, traditional sweets and many many gin vendors...

The Experience

As the first night market, there were obviously things that could have been improved. Going from the Facebook event, I didn't think it would be very busy but clearly there had been a lot of publicity elsewhere and it was crammed! The event had to have fencing to comply with licensing laws but I don't think anyone from the organisers to vendors to customers expected the quantity of people that were there which led to some grumbles about being squashed etc. With this kind of thing, the first time you just cannot predict how it will go and to have it packed out can only be a good thing - it shows that this kind of event is in demand!! Aside from that, there was a decent range of good food, plenty of drink options and live music all night. Not to mention that surrounding pubs, bars and restaurants were all benefiting from the extra custom too.

The queues at the stalls were long. There's no other way to put it. But what we did get was well worth the wait.

I'm not normally a sausage roll fan but these were really tasty, especially the pulled pork which had a sweet jelly/sauce inside too...very very tasty!

I really love events like this and I'm looking forward to the next night market!
