Peek into Mister Miyagi in Ormskirk

Like pan-Asian cuisine? Like tapas? You'll love Mister Miyagi in Ormskirk. The third branch of this north-west restaurant opened near me in April 2017 and I finally managed to visit!

Mister Miyagi Concept

From a stylish interior to a delicious menu, Mister Miyagi had the kind of menu that I could get into. I love Japanese and Thai food and could indulge my tastes in small tapas style dishes that were perfect to share with my husband.

The menu is split into From the Garden, From the Sea and From the Land so we chose one dish from each plus a side dish. Each section had so much choice that it was difficult to pick just one but by sharing the dishes, we made the most of each section.

Mister Miyagi Menu Choices

From the Earth

I chose to have:
Robata Fired Asian Greens which was pak choi, tender stem broccoli and beans glazed in a teriyaki sauce and served with cashew nuts. This was delicious, if a little salty, and the vegetables were cooked to perfection. It was a fab dish to have as a light bite.

Mr T chose:
Paneer Massaman Curry which had a Thai Green Curry feel to it. This ended up being easily my favourite dish of the entire meal - the paneer was the perfect texture and balance to the fragrant and aromatic curry and the spring onions added a fantastic crunch to contrast with the paneer. I wish we'd ordered some sticky rice to eat with it!

From the Sea

I chose the Lobster and Crayfish Mini Brioche which was nice but a little bit like a prawn cocktail sandwich. There was nothing wrong with it, but I probably would order something different next time. This would be great to eat at a lunchtime!

Mr T chose the Salmon Nori Taco. This was cured salmon with sushi rice, slaw and pickles and a really orangey dressing, all served in a nori taco! The salmon was really fantastic - so full of flavour!

From the Land

I chose the Pork Belly Bao Bun which came with pickled pear and miso sauce. The pulled pork was really tender and well-flavoured! The bao bun was everything a bao bun should be - soft, fluffy and slightly sweet. Delicious!!

Mr T chose the Robata Fired Yakatori - chicken skewers with a soy glaze. These were also very tender and juicy - perfectly cooked with no hint of dryness!

Side Dish

We chose the salt and pepper fries which came as a mixture of sweet potato and normal fries, served with peppers, onions and the most amazing glaze! They didn't last long enough to get photographed.

Pudding

After all that, I really fancied the Round the Campfire pudding which the table next door had - a small fire pit that was served with marshmallows, cookies and fresh strawberries. It looked gorgeous! However, the weather that day was SO hot and I just couldn't face having a fire on the table! It's one I'll definitely be ordering when I return.

Instead, we chose the Chocolate Brownie Spring Rolls which came with a creamy coconut ice cream and a zingy raspberry coulis. Absolutely delicious and the perfect size to share.

Cocktail Menu

I love a good cocktail and Mister Miyagi did not disappoint.

This is the Japanese Stiletto - a combination of Pear, Thai Sweet Basil, berries, black pepper, pear vodka, Chambord and Grand Marnier. The mix of flavours was well balanced and the black pepper added a real zing!

Mr T was driving so he chose from the extensive mocktail list. This is the Honeydew - a mixture of mint, ginger, honey, lime and apple juice. On the hot day we visited, he reported that this was very refreshing and thirst-quenching.

All in all, Mister Miyagi satisfied any Japanese and Thai cravings I was having. The rate that the food arrived was brilliant - no long waits but never too much food on the table at a time. Definitely worth a visit if you're in Liverpool or Ormskirk - I'm definitely going to be returning!
