Primark Beauty Sponge Review

In the early days of blogging, when I realised that Beauty Blenders were A THING, I was intrigued. And when I saw a pink, egg shaped sponge in Primark for £1 I was even more intrigued. And then when I got it home and it was hard and not at all spongy, even when wet, I decided that beauty sponges might be A THING but not in my makeup bag.

After that I discovered the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge* which swiftly became A THING for me. I loved it passionately! And still do....

However, I've also found a new beauty sponge, half the price and *almost* as good. And it was from what had changed?

Don't get me wrong, the pink egg sponges are still there in Primark. I personally don't like them, you can't get any bounce with them, regardless of how much you soak them. They're very hard and you feel like you're punching yourself in the face with them...not exactly a relaxing makeup experience.

However, you MUST try the black, non-latex beauty sponges.

Retailing at a slightly more expensive £2, the PS Pro latex free sponges come in a normal size or as a pack of four mini sponges for £2.50 (SO cute!) and they are so much better than the original pink egg sponges they also sell. There also appears to be an orange double round blender for £2.

When you soak these, they expand to become a really good sized sponge, larger than the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge, that has a good deal of bounce and sponginess about it. They're not as spongy/bouncy as Real Techniques, but they're not far off and in terms of application on the face, you don't notice the difference.

I have a black one which I thought would be a nightmare to keep clean but actually, I've found that it cleans up really well. This one has been washed three times now and has kept its bounce and is still in almost new condition.

It's got a flat edge which I use to bounce my foundation onto my face and comes to a point which I use to get into the nooks and crannys of my face. It's a little too big to get up under the eyes so I'm definitely going to return and pick up some of the mini sponges too.

I picked this up in my local Primark which is tiny and never has anything exciting in, so I'm pretty sure they've been rolled out in Primark's across the country. Get yourself down to your local store and grab one - they're absolutely worth a go, especially when you go through beauty sponges at the rate I do!

What is your favourite way to apply base products?
