Armathwaite Hall Hotel and Spa

I was recently lucky enough to have an overnight stay at Armathwaite Hall - a luxury hotel in the Lake District. This hotel is owned by the Graves family and has stood on the shores of Bassenthwaite since the 11th century! It's got gorgeous rooms with stunning views, a luxurious spa, brasserie restaurant and formal restaurant as well as many many little nooks and crannies to curl up with a cup of tea and a good book!

Rufford Old Hall Scarecrow Festival

As a National Trust membership, I visit the properties close to my house quite regularly and one of my favourites is Rufford Old Hall.

This year, I visited their Scarecrow Festival with my god-daughter and bestie. It started today and was SO much fun walking around the grounds and spotting the scarecrows made by volunteers and local businesses.

This really is my favourite time of year - I feel like I get a fresh start with the new school year and it's the family and friend's birthday season so I get to celebrate lots with the people I love. Add into that snuggly jumpers, cosy scarves, falling leaves and pumpkin spice latte and I am one happy blogger!

Chatsworth House Style Exhibition

For the longest time, I've been really interested in History and specifically the first half of the twentieth century. One of the areas of History I'm really interested in reading about is the Mitford family. There were 6 Mitford sisters and a brother. The sisters encompassed practically the entire spectrum of political beliefs during the period leading up to the war and were famous (or infamous) during that period. The youngest Mitford sister, Deborah or Debo, married Lord Andrew Cavendish who became the 11th Duke of Devonshire, the family responsible for Chatsworth. Debo took a very active role in promoting Chatsworth as a visitor attraction and increasing its income so she is inextricably linked to the house. I ADORE visiting Chatsworth and have been at least annually for some years now. When I heard about their latest exhibition, I had to go and see it for myself and it did not disappoint...read on to find out what it is!

Tori's Top Tips: A Smokey Eye

Last week, I wrote a detailed step by step tutorial for a smokey eye. It was SO detailed that I thought a briefer top tips could also be useful for those who are fairly confident with a smokey eye but want to refine it a little more. A smokey eye is my ALL TIME favourite makeup look on myself and over the years, I've picked up 4 top tips to help me achieve the look I want as the latest in my series of posts on Tori's Top Tips.

The darker the eyeshadow, the smaller the brush

As your shadow gets darker, you want it to take up less space in your crease so that it doesn't end up looking like you've been punched in the face. I have a range of makeup brushes that decrease in size that I can use to blend increasingly darker shadows into my crease.

Tori's Top Tips for a Smokey Eye #bbloggers

A brushes work is never done

Don't think that because you've put that first crease colour down that you can put that brush away. You need to keep going back to previous brushes to blend out the edges of eyeshadows. This way, your colours will blend together seamlessly.

Dot and blend

My favourite way to achieve a smokey eye is to dot my darkest colour into the outer V, then blend it around the outer V and into the crease a little bit. Repeat the dot and blend until you've got the look you want!

Don't worry about the mess

You can always clean up any misplaced shadow or fallout with a makeup wipe. Swipe from the outer corner of your eye to the end of your brow and you'll have the perfect angle! Alternatively, you can place a piece of tape in the same angle before applying your shadow which gives a really crisp line. And if it ALL goes wrong, use the DHC Olive Oil Infused Cotton Buds* to clean up.

What tips would you add to this list?

Hare Hill - Macclesfield

I'm a member of the National Trust and love nothing more than escaping to a property at the weekend and having a good old nosy around. Big or small, I find something interesting about each location! Hare Hill is a woodland park with a walled garden at its centre. Small yet perfectly formed.

Ibiza as an over 30...

I recently spent a few days in San Antonio, on a girls holiday which, as an over 30, was quite the experience! We stayed at the Ibiza Rocks hotel (cue being old enough to have parented half the population there) and did our fair share of 5am finishes...so, what would I recommend as an over 30 partying in Ibiza??

Moor Street Night Market - Ormskirk

I've been trying to find more local events to attend with the hubs and saw that Ormskirk had organised a night market. The description of local ales, artisan gins and, of course, street food won us over so off we went to the first Moor Street Night Market. It may be the first, but I hope it's not the last. I can see that this would be really successful!

My Holiday Essentials

I've been a little AWOL for a while on my blog - time, emotions and a general lack of motivation have all contributed to a lack of presence on my blog and social media.

I think that perhaps I want to take the blog in a more lifestyle direction - I feel bad for writing holiday posts, fashion posts, days out posts when I've always set myself out as a beauty blog. Perhaps I should worry less about sticking to a niche and just write what I want - the blogs been heading down a lifestyle route organically anyway!

Anyway, enough of the blurb...onto this post - my holiday essentials!

Warner Bros Harry Potter Studio Tour Photo Diary London

You might have read my last post - The Ultimate Guide to Harry Potter's London for free - if not, I recommend that you do to find out how to be a Potterhead for the day, free of charge!

The reason I was in London in the first place was to visit the WB Studio Tour - something my sister and I have LONGED to do since it first opened.

We had the most incredible day entering the world of Harry Potter and I would highly recommend doing this tour if you're a fan and it's possible for you to do it. It was AMAZING.

The Ultimate Guide to Harry Potter in London - for FREE!

If you follow me on Instagram, you'll have recently seen a glut of Harry Potter related posts from my recent trip to London. Since the Studio Tour opened, my sister and I have planned to go and finally, finally we booked our tickets, deciding to make a couple of days out of it all.

However, post Christmas blues started to hit and we realised that while the studio tickets were already paid for (Christmas present) the rest of London could be an expensive trip. All hail the power of the internet. I was reading one of my favourite blogs - Emily Underworld when I noticed a post about a magical place to visit in London, perfect for Potter fans. I quickly started planning my entire trip around this find!

Where is this magical place I hear you ask? Read on...

The £20 Makeup Challenge

I've watched loads of these challenges online and thought I'd try my own. Instead of going to a shop and buying the products, as I'm on a spending ban, I shopped my stash for £20 worth of products and applied them to my face. With the plethora of decent budget brands out there, I found this easier than I thought and I was pretty pleased with the end result too!

Primark Beauty Sponge Review

In the early days of blogging, when I realised that Beauty Blenders were A THING, I was intrigued. And when I saw a pink, egg shaped sponge in Primark for £1 I was even more intrigued. And then when I got it home and it was hard and not at all spongy, even when wet, I decided that beauty sponges might be A THING but not in my makeup bag.

After that I discovered the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge* which swiftly became A THING for me. I loved it passionately! And still do....

However, I've also found a new beauty sponge, half the price and *almost* as good. And it was from Primark...so what had changed?

In fact, I was a woman possessed, constantly checking whether it was in stock. Finally, I found it was in stock on Beauty Chamber, ordered it and the rest, as they say, is history!
